Qwickly Course Tools provides the option to enable Virus and Malware Detection. To do this, log in to the Qwickly administrative dashboard and navigate to Settings. Click on the File Picker tab. Here, the administrator will see the option to turn on “Enable Virus and Malware Detection” by clicking on the checkbox. The administrator is required to provide one email address for receiving virus and malware notifications. If multiple administrators wish to receive email notifications of file alerts, email forwarding should be configured on the client side.
Administrators can also fully customize File Picker settings by selecting which sources instructors can use when uploading or linking to files in Qwickly Course Tools, using the File Picker list. By default, all upload or link from sources are turned on. Checking a box (or boxes) makes the selected sources available for the instructor to upload or link from.
For custom changes to take effect, the administrator must click on Save Settings at the bottom right of the screen. The administrator will see a green success banner once settings have been saved.
File Alert
Administrators can view File Alerts from the lefthand navigation menu. If there are any Malware File Alerts, they will be listed with the most recent dates at the top. The drop down arrow next to “Courses Affected” shows the exact placement of the file(s) in question in the LMS. Clicking on the hyperlink takes the administrator directly to that area in the LMS. A file can be uploaded to a course and not be used. Malware File Alerts can be moved to Dismissed Alerts by clicking on the trash can icon.
Instructor Workflow in Qwickly Course Tools
While instructors can't stop a virus from being uploaded initially, we've designed the malware scanning feature to ensure it doesn't disrupt the workflow for faculty users.
In this test case instance, Qwickly uploaded a test file, a harmless file designed by EICAR to intentionally set off Malware scanning software (https://www.eicar.org/). File scanning starts as soon as the instructor selects the file or link source. It can take 2-3 minutes to scan but can take longer due to network traffic or file size.
