In order to use the SMS Text Messaging Tool in Qwickly Course Tools, your Qwickly Course Tools license must include SMS credits and administrators will need to enable the tool.
Administratively Enable the SMS Texting Tools
- Log into the qwickly.tools Dashboard
- In an instance card, click on Manage Course Tools to open Course Tools Settings
- Navigate to Settings > Tools
- Click Manage Course Tools to enable the new tools listed below. After checking the box next to each tool, click the Save Settings button.
Text Message (under Send)
This tool allows faculty to send SMS text messages to students who have registered their phone number. Students who have not registered their phone number will receive an email with the same message instead.
SMS Register Phone Number (under Student Tools > Manage)
This tool allows students to directly register their phone number within Qwickly Course Tools. This tool is optional, but highly recommended.

Usage Statistics
You can find out how many SMS text messages have been sent and how may remain by visiting the SMS Usage section above Settings. Please note that students receiving verification codes via SMS to register their phone number do not count against the total usage.
Instructor Use
To send an SMS text message, an instructor will:
1. Launch Qwickly Course Tools from the Learning Management System
2. Click the SMS Text Message tool in the left navigation under the Send menu
3. Choose the course(s) to send the SMS text message to; compose a message of up to 130 characters; click Next to proceed.
4. Review the Summary which will show the how many recipients will receive an SMS text message and how many will receive an email.
5. Click Submit to send.
Student Phone Number Registration
The following methods allow a student to register a phone number for SMS texting from Qwickly Course Tools:
Self Registration with Email Link
When an instructor attempts to send an SMS message to a user who does not have a registered phone number, the message will instead be sent as an email (if an email address for the user is saved). This email includes a link to the phone number self registration page.
Please note that this link expires 7 days after it is sent to a user and may be used to register a phone number only once. If a new message is sent to a user before this link is used, only the new link can be used and all previous links are deactivated.
The Student will see the following message at the bottom of their email:
A student may register a phone number using the emailed link with the following steps:
- Enter a phone number and click Submit
- Enter the 6 digit verification code sent to the phone number and click Confirm
Self Registration within Qwickly Course Tools
A student enrolled in a course can use the SMS Register Phone tool to register their phone number for future SMS communications. In order for this option to be available, the tool must first be enabled by a Qwickly client administrator (see steps above).
Note that student tools are shown to Course Tools users who are enrolled in at least one course with a student role. If custom student roles are in use, they can be defined in the Permissions tab of Course Tools Settings.
- Launch Qwickly Course Tools from the LMS.
- Open the SMS Register Phone tool, enter a phone number and click Next.
- Enter the 6 digit verification code sent to the phone number and click submit.
A student may return to this page and repeat these steps if they wish to change their registered phone number.
